January 30, 2024 - Helping Bruce B. pick up his new
1-26 glider

Bruce was in town for a few days.  After all, what better time to leave warm and sunny Florida for cold and dreary Maryland than in January?   While he was up here, he decided to buy a used 1-26 glider.  Well, of course he did.  He and I drove out to the Mid-Atlantic Soaring airport near Emmittsburg, MD to disassemble the glider, put it on a trailer and bring it back.  Below is a shot of Bruce with his new wings.

The Schweizer SGS 1-26 is a United States One-Design, single-seat, mid-wing glider built by Schweizer Aircraft of Elmira, New York.  The SGS 1-26 enjoyed a very long production run from its first flight in 1954 until 1979, when production was ended.  The 1-26 is the most numerous sailplane found in the US.   As of November 2017 there were still 438 SGS 1-26s registered in the US.

I've flown the 1-26 a number of times and loved it.  It's a fun flying machine.

The 1-26 disassembled and ready to go on the trailer.
